Cooperstown: Stereotyped and published by H. & E. Phinney, 1828. Hardcover. See Description. 16mo in 8's (92 mm tall in boards). pp. 322 + 282. First section consists of the Psalms; the second section contains hymns with separate title page and pagination. The title for the hymns reads: "Hymns and spiritual songs in three books. by Isaac Watts.Cooperstown: Stereotyped and published by H. & E. Phinney, 1828." Bound in period American sheep-skin with simple label on the spine. Binding is solid but contains rubbing, wear and some crackling. Leather has been nicely treated for preservation. Interior pages show foxing throughout and general wear. Corner creasing is common - generally light. A 15 mm tear located on the upper part of p. 21 is neatly sealed; a tiny tear on the title page is also sealed. titles in the upper margins of a few leaves are partially trimmed. Occasional printing defects (i.e. p. 21 near tear) are present. The front blank fly-leaf is lacking and the rear fly-leaf contains two faint stamps, one with an unrecognizable profile like a coin and the date 1821 or 1827. The rear paste down is mostly worn away. A later yellow silk ribbon is loosely inserted.
