London : Wilkes, 1797. 1st Edition 1st Printing. No Binding. Near Fine. Original Engraving, Ample Margins All Around. Some Foxing At Outer Edges. One Of A Large Collection Of Original Antique Engravings Formed By A Southern California Artist In The Early To Middle Twentieth Century. Each Plate Has Small Glue Marks On Reverse Where They Were Tipped In To An Album. One Of The Most Gifted Stipple Engravers Of The Late Eighteenth And Early Nineteenth Century, Circa 1792-1823 Relatively Little Is Known Of The Life Of John Chapman. He Is Thought To Have Been Mostly Self-Taught. During His Career, Chapman Engraved Exceptional Allegorical Subjects After The Designs Of J. Smith And Raphael Corbould. He Worked Closely With Thomas Macklin On His Shakespeare Series; Almost Half Of The Engravings Bear His Name.
