Hansheng Magazine is an award-winning project dedicated to highlighting a specific aspect of Chinese cultural arts with each issue. It was founded in 1971 as the English magazine ECHO before shifting towards the Chinese-speaking audience, and was focused on preserving folk art, research, and high production values. This issue is centered around the proposed demolition and subsequent preservations of a shrine pavilion in Longtan, Taiwan. The pavilion was built in the Qing dynasty and served as a pilgrimage site and relic monument in the Daoist tradition. The issue covers the construction and details of the monument, historical records referring to it, the biographies of activists who protected it, etc.
