REID, Captain Mayne. The Quadroon; or, A Lover's Adventures in Louisiana. Original blindstamped cloth. London; George W. Hyde, 1856. 3 volumes. First edition. Wolff 5753. Spines somewhat sunned, cloth rubbed, some wear to spine ends and corners, ex-library with bookplates, else a very good copy. Based upon Reid's experiences in the American south and southwest. Reid had come to the United States in his early twenties, reaching New Orleans in January, 1840, where he pursued various occupations as shopkeeper, slave overseer, shoolmaster, and actor.
