Thompson was born in St. Louis of French parentage and was sent to France to attend school, but returned to this country early and moved to the Ozark Mountains of Missouri, then an unsettled wilderness. "While acting as guide for hunters and fisherman, Thompson became acquainted with three noted novelists, James Oliver Curwood, Emerson Hough and Jack London. The trio encouraged young Thompson to write and London gave him the pen name which he has made famous. Thompson was a professional trainer of bird dogs and was an authority on fly and bait casting. Hunters and anglers from all parts of the world had been his guests at his summer home in Quebec, Canada. Bound in original paper wrappers, This copy is bright, fresh, and New Old Stock.
