Bedford (gift inscription); Lindley Eberstadt (letter and his sporting bookplate loosely inserted). Custom morocco backed clamshell box. First edition. 2 chromolithographic plates from a watercolor by James Poole. 22 sunken mounts with specimens of flies and fly tying material. 1 vols. 4to. INSCRIBED TO THE ARTIST. The very rare 1875 imprint; almost all copies bear an 1876 imprint. With numerous specimens of flies and fly-making materials in 22 sunken mounts.

Presentation copy belonging to the artist. Inscribed on the title page: "James Poole Esq. / with the Editors kind regards & most sincere thanks." There is an additional gift inscription adjacent to this from Poole to J. Bedford, dated 1888. The present is one of the minority of copies with the title page dated 1875 rather than 1876 (as the spine reads). Contains actual samples of feathers, fishing line, thread, miniature hooks, etc., used in the creation of hand-tied flies
