Design and typography by Jerry Kelly. Gaylord Schanilec is widely considered to be the finest color wood engraver of our time. He has produced hundreds of books, broadsides, chapbooks, editioned prints and assorted pieces of ephemera. The bibliography contains an historical introduction by Rob Rulon-Miller which places Schanilec in the fertile Minneapolis letterpress scene from the late 1970s to the turn of the century. He has won numerous awards locally, nationally, and internationally, among which: 2020 John Burroughs Literary Riverby Award for exceptional nature books for young readers; 2020 Minnesota Book Award; 2015 Judges Choice Award at the 2015 Oxford Fine Press Book Fair; 2007 The Gregynog Prize; 2006 Carl Hertzog Award for Excellence in Book Design; 2005 Judges Choice Award, Oxford Book Fair; 1999 Minnesota Book Award.
