Light bumping to corners and heavy crushing to spine ends, causing cloth to fray. Heavy tanning overall.

Heavy foxing and tanning to text block edges and both hinges are cracked with exposed netting. Binding is also loose. Boards have visible tanning and rubbing with moderate bumping to corners. Fair crushing to spine ends and heavy tanning to spine as well.

John Heywood Manchester undated c 1896 G (no dj, very colourful attractive dark blue cloth boards with bright floral/gilt decoration spine and front board, gilt title panel spine and ornate floral decorations in yellow/red/pale blue, similar title panel and flowers on front board with gilt edges to flower petals, unfortunately there is a heavy damp stain 1" wide down the fore-edge of back board, corners lightly bumped, a heavy volume and front and back hinges beginning to crack but textblock binding remaining firm, all page edges gilt, Sunday School prize plate front fixed endpaper dated 1896,pages clean and bright with occasional scattered light foxing) octavo 642pp. Unusual to find a copy of this very scarce edition by this publisher. B/w frontis and illustrations unattributed but signed ?Chris Hammond.
