Half-bound in maroon leather over red and gold marbled paper-covered boards. Five raised bands on spine, with gilt edging and thistle design in four panels; two panels have black leather labels with gold lettering. Matching marbled endpapers. Top pages edges gilt. Gilt ruled borders. Red satin index ribbon in each volume. Black and white photogravure plates by Gebbie & Husson Co. have titled tissue guards. 451 + 439 pages. NOT ex-library. Bindings tight. Hinges NOT cracked. Corners and edges worn, with some light peeling to the leather. Boards lightly rubbed. Spines darkened to more of a brown color. Moisture stain near spine on leather of back cover; does not affect interior of book. Pages lightly and uniformly tanned but still supple. Minor scratch to fore edge of pages of vol. 2. Boards exposed at tips of vol. 2. Some pages remain unopened (uncut) along fore edge. Name in ink on back of frontispiece. A few stray ink marks on first two blank pages. Pages clean and unmarked. No dust jacket. Carefully packed, shipped in a box.
