Large quarto, xii, 273, [1] (colophon) pages with 142 pages of small circular illustrations from portrait photographs (2262 in all). The frontispiece portrait of King George V is now bound in between two pages of plates (30 and 31); a colour certificate from the Shire of Noosa (details below) has been bound in as the frontispiece. Original half roan and later moire cloth to the sides (with the gilt-lettered portion of the original cloth mounted on the front cover); leather a little rubbed at the extremities; edges foxed; light to moderate foxing to the text throughout; the frontispiece and certificate have minor condition issues; minor signs of age and use; overall, a very good copy. The certificate, presented on 8 September 1915 to C.F. Nielsen (3208 Sapper Charles Frederick Nielsen, 4th Field Company Engineers), was a 'token of esteem, and admiration' tendered to him 'for his self sacrifice, and Patriotism in joining the gallant band who left our shores for the battlefields of Europe'.
