The story centers around Rab, the big "mastiff "dog, who is "old, grey, brindled, as big as a little Highland bull" as well as being extremely loving and loyal. Delightfully illustrated with six full-page b/w reproductions of drawings by artists such as Edwin Douglas, G. Harvey, P. Brown, and William Miller. Abrasions to parts of leather. Minor soiling on boards. Wear on corners. Binding in overall good, interior in very good condition. Scarce. * Lucy [Doheny] Smith Battson was the daughter-in-law of Countess Carrie Estelle Doheny (1875-1958). E. Doheny was a Los Angeles socialite and the second wife of oil tycoon Edward L. Doheny.
