Sobre este artículo
Kansas City: Andrews and McMeel, Inc., 1983. Second printing. Octavo, original brown cloth, original dust jacket. Mild bump to top corner, pale stain to top fore-edge of near-fine book, very good dust jacket with moderate edge-wear. Rare.
"A VOICE WAS HEARD IN RAMAH, SOBBING AND LOUDLY LAMENTING: IT WAS RACHEL WEEPING FOR HER CHILDREN, REFUSING TO BE COMFORTED BECAUSE THEY WERE NO MORE"
Second printing, one year after the first, of Father Burtchaell's collection of essays on abortion. Burtchaell was a theologian and provost at Notre Dame University and had originally wanted "nothing to do with the abortion quarrel." Burtchaell was spurred into action by a series of events, including a 1976 op-ed in Newsweek by John D. Rockefeller III attacking the Catholic Church for its opposition to abortion. Stung by Rockefeller's criticisms, Burtchaell began writing on the Church's teachings on life, culminating with these five essays: Essay I. Rachel Weeping: The Veterans of Abortion, Essay II. Very Small Fry: The Arguments for Abortion, Essay III. Die Buben sind unser Unglck!, Essay IV. Eliza and Lizzie Scott, and Infants Roe and Doe: How They Fared. Slavery and Abortion in America, Essay V. How Much is a Child Worth? From Abortion to Infanticide. Dedicated to Jim Andrews, the co-founder of Andrews and McMeel book publishers (and a Notre Dame graduate) who had died suddenly in 1980, at age 44. First printed in March, 1982. The hardcover printings are scarce, more so in dust jacket.
