Interior pictorial pages are near flawless. This Dover Edition, first published in 1987 is a new selection of plates from the six-volume work originally published in Paris in 1888. The new English captions are based on information in the French original. The present selection of 92 plates, reproduces 20% larger than the originals to add both clarity and impressiveness, include 83 plates from the western European historical division and 9 plates on Scotland, Russia, and Poland, which were placed by Racinet within the final folk-costume division but are actually European fashion from the early Middle Ages to Napoleonic times.
