The memoirs of Randolph Caldecott's early art career, written by Henry Blackburn. Profusely illustrated with one hundred and seventy two illustrations by Caldecott, a fair amount of which previously unpublished before. Caldecott's artistic abilities were recognised by the Royal Academy, and his work influenced children's books during the nineteenth century. In the original publisher's illustrated cloth binding, with titles stamped in gilt to front board and spine, and gilt to edges. Externally very smart, with slight shelfwear and bumping to head and tail of spine and extremities. Cloth to spine has slightly faded. Internally, hinges are slightly strained at the occasional page, otherwise binding is firm. Minor faint spotting to first and last few leaves, otherwise pages are generally bright and clean. Based in the literary city of Bath, our offices are housed in the Eastern Dispensary. Built in 1845, the building originally existed as a charitable institution providing medical care. The building now houses our collection of over twenty thousand books and has five full time members of staff.
