Annual report of the Paris Observatory for 1885. Mouchez (1821-92), a French astronomer, originally prepared for a naval career and served with distinction in the French Navy before he became director of the Paris Observatory. He was a member of the Bureau des Longitudes and of the astronomical section of the Académie des Sciences. Mouchez attempted to improve surveying techniques by promoting the use of observational instruments.
