Sobre este artículo

London: John and H. L. Hunt,, 1825. First edition in English, and first separate edition. The work was originally published as part of the Théorie des Peines et des Récompenses, of 1811, a compilation made by Dumont from two sets of manuscripts by Bentham, one in English, and the other, the Essai sur les Récompenses, in French. This English translation was made by Richard Smith, who prepared many of Bentham's manuscripts for publication, and contains an original preface by Bentham. "Bentham proposed, amongst other measures, the creation of prizes for the encouragement of discoveries and research, and the institution of a Register of Trade Marks. He advocated, also, the free grant of Patents - then charged with exorbitant fees - or, at least, that no fees should be paid until the inventor had reaped some benefit from the Patent" (Atkinson, Jeremy Bentham: His Life and Work, p. 172). Octavo (210 x 124 mm). Recent half calf, red morocco label, marbled sides. Binding fine, contents with occasional light foxing; a very good copy. Chuo R4.1; Everett, p. 532; Goldsmiths' 24656; Muirhead, p. 23.
