Raymond Chandler Speaking comprises a selection of letters from Chandler to various friends concerning a range of topics, including mystery writing, Hollywood, publishers, and cats. It also contains the author's notes on several real-life murders, and the first four chapters of the book he was working on at the time of his death in 1959, later completed as the Philip Marlowe novel Poodle Springs (1989) by mystery writer Robert B. Parker. Octavo. Original purple boards, titles to spine gilt. With dust jacket. With portrait frontispiece and 4 black and white photographic plates. A sharp, square copy, front inner hinge tender, light crease to title page, a few spots of foxing to fore edge, else a near-fine copy, bright and clean, in the fresh jacket, unclipped, spine panel a little sunned with short closed tear to head, rear panel a touch soiled, light creasing and an occasional nick to spine and joint ends.
