Greenfield, MA: A. Phelps, 1834. First Edition. Hardcover. Good. Originally published in 1821, this volume went through various reprintings, but this is the first Phelps edition. An early juvenile fiction piece in the abolitionist movement. First A. Phelps/Greenfield Edition. 71 pp. 32mo. Paper covered boards with printed titling, leather spine. Boards have considerable wear and scuffing front and rear, but title still visible. Leather spine separating from boards and quite crisp, but boards still tight to text block. Foxing to endpapers, front and rear, some minor spotting within, overall darkening to pages from age. Four rear leaves missing small bits at the upper right corner and along foredge, but does not effect text. A hardy little volume.

Greenfield, Mass: A. Phelps, 1834. Hardcover. Good. First Greenfield edition, originally published in 1821. Quarter calf and printed paper over boards. Front fly appears to be lacking, spine back largely eroded, a good only copy. Anti-slavery story intended for a juvenile audience by Mary Martha Sherwood, the wife of a British naval officer who had visited Africa. The plot concerns Dazee, a young boy captured into slavery from Sierra Leone, but re-captured by the navy, and returned to his native land. it had printings in several locations in the American northeast, but is uncommon on the market.
