Blue cloth boards with red lettering and dark blue stamped decoration to board and spine. Edges, corners, and spine ends worn, a few spots of wear to boards. Spine sunned. Gift inscription to FFEP. Perforation to contents page at inner margin. Text is clean. Dust jacket cropped at corners of flaps, chips to spine ends (with loss), spine sunned, a few short tears to edges and small patches of wear to front and spine. Mary Jane Holmes (April 5, 1825 - October 6, 1907) was an American author who published 39 novels, as well as short stories, largely focusing on themes of gender relationships, class, justice, race and slavery. This is one of her later novels, first published in 1875.
