Extremely scarce in the trade, this small handbook was first offered in Apr. 1948 by the California State Board of Forestry as a "practical guide for woodsmen," written by & for the wood workers of the region. Contents include detailed information about the trees & forest, along with practical instructions for timber cruising, log scaling, slash disposal, & fire prevention. In 160 +[1] pages, illustrated throughout with many figures & charts, black-&-white photos, & a 2-page color section, + blank pages for Notes in rear. A FIRST EDITION, First Printing from 1948, this softcover 16mo (4.5" x 7") has tan wrappers decorated with an image of a lumberjack amidst the redwoods to front cover in darker brown & lettered in same. Condition is VG: very clean, binding strong & straight, pages creamy white with only mild tanning to edges, but unmarked. Red stamp inside front cover has transfered to title page.
