In the present work a more exact and penetrating stylistic analysis has been attempted than ever before in respect of the furniture of the Regency period. Special thought has been devoted not only to the development of styles and movements of taste during the Regency period, but also to the influences, historical, social, and psychological, that brought them about. The question of French influence, too, has been newly studied; especially regarding its earlier phases, but also in its later manifestations.
