Saul Solomon & Co., Printers, Cape Town, 1881. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good/No Jacket. 178 pages of instruction, plus marching music scores and parade ground diagrams. A VERY, VERY RARE COPY. Full black leather boards with stamped gilt titling. The boards are worn, scuffed, marked all about. The titling is bold. The spine has much wear to the head and the foot. Previous owner signature on the frontispage. The frontis and end papers are tanned. The guttering along the frontis page is a little cracked - but the security of the book is unaffected. The papertrims have very light storage marks. The pages have scant evidence of use. There are some shallow handling/ printing waves. The pages are gratifyingly clean and clear and smart, orderly, certain, unmarked by the years or owner, companionable and comfortable. fk.
