Sobre este artículo

Wilmington, Delaware: Johnston & Bogia, 1872. Second Edition . Hardcover. G-. The author, "a lady of piety and intelligence,'' proffers a history of her beautiful city of Wilmington, Delaware, with Publishers Preface explaining the importance of issuing this Second Edition, as the First went out of print & had become exceedingly rare. Date of original copyright not provided, but this is the (Stated) Second Edition from 1872. In 310 pages, with 2 sepia-toned photos throughout text & a photographic frontispiece of Israel Aurelius, Swedish historian who was instrumental in founding the town. Each of these have their original tissue overlays, though these are heavily yellowed. The plates themselves are heavily foxed; Laid in is a thank you note dated 1922 from Mary Chambers, thanking the book's owner, Rebecca, for loaning it to her; apparently Ms Chambers had lived in Wilmington, as she reports enjoying some of the familiar names in the book, closing with "best wishes for thee and thine," so likely she was part of the Quaker community that thrived there at the time. Brown cloth-covered boards, sewn binding, the brown stitching of which can be seen through some cracks in the front hinge. Front board is wobbly. Spine covering has come loose & been reglued, with much fraying & cracking along interfaces of both boards. Interior is very clean, pages moderately tanned, heavier around edges, commensurate with age. Former owner's name on ffep. No DJ as issued (never came with one). An interesting slice of Americana & regional New England history! Our photos depict the exact book you will receive, never "stock" images of books we don't actually have! Same day shipping if ordered by 2 pm weekdays (PST); later orders, weekends & holidays ship very next day.
