Paris: Editions de l'Amateur, 1994. First. hardcover. very good. Boivin, Rene. Profusely illustrated throughout in color. 400 pages with text in French. Thick 4to, gilt-lettered yellowish cloth (several tiny spots on front cover; several pages with faint coin-sized stains). Paris: Editions de l'Amateur, (1994). First edition. Lacking the dust wrapper, but despite faults, this is still a better than very good copy of this terribly scarce monograph.

Descripción:
Chez Jean de Bonnot, Paris 1988 (first published 1860). 28.0 x 20.0cms, 243+ pp, 271 original duotone & b/w illusts, very good hardback with handsome gilt decorations on black leather boards ('la reliure est en cur veritable de mouton, finisse a la main. L'or est titre 22 carats) Baudelaire writes about being being under the influence of opium & hashish. He describes the effects of the drugs and discusses the way in which they could theoretically aid mankind in reaching an "ideal" world. Influenced by Thomas de Quincey's Confessions of an English Opium-Eater, he analyzes the addict's motivation and the user's psychedelic experience.
