Cambridge: University Press, 1923. Softcover. Good/no jacket. The report in gray wraps, 334 pages, 10.5 in tall. A study of 8 New England railroads: New Haven, Boston & Maine, Boston & Albany, Maine Central, Bangor & Aroostook, Grand Trunk, Rutland, and Canadian Pacific. A separate volume in biege wraps contains a general map of New England railroads plus 22 other railroad maps, all in fine condition. The front wrap of the map volume shows brown tone at edges and pea-size hole from bug activity at edge. Both volumes have a library code at the corner of front wrap, no other markings.

This book is in good condition. There is some wear on the front, back, spine, edges and corner of the cover. There is some dog-earring on the right corner pages of the book. The pages are white, crisp and clear of any markings. "This is a history of the visual arts produced in the geographical area that now constitutes the United States. Such a book is difficult to title. A History of United States Art sounds awkward and logically might even be construed to exclude the arts of the colonial period. Thus, with apologies to our northern and southern neighbors, I use the title A History of American Art, knowing full well that the terms America and the United States are not synonymous...." - Preface from A History of American Art

This book is in good condition. There is a lot of wear on the front, back, spine and edges of the cover boards. There is also a substantial amount of staining on the cover boards. The pages are yellowed and tanned. There are also markings throughout the book. "The roots of this book reach back to the early 1950s in Paris, where I began my professional career as a journalist. This book has blue cloth with navy and red text and design. Tipped plate of American flag on center of front board. Interior tanning heavily from age and book has light warping from age and moisture. Has small bookworm hole affecting the upper right corner of pages 23- 83, completely out of the way of any text and only about 1/2 inch in depth. Missing page corner as depicted, affecting the first front illustration page, affects a small amount of caption text, and the edges of 2 photos. Book generally lays flat and is readable and is fairly supple, Binding is decent and will permit reading. Fair condition, but not terrible for its age. 100+ illustrations. Suitable for gifting. 163 pages. The 25 authors of this book were volunteers in the first Peace Corps rural community development project in Africa: Sierra Leone, 1965-67. They are also the first group to tell a collective story of Peace Corps volunteers, anywhere. The Peace Corps was in its infancy then, and memories of John Kennedy were strong among the young volunteers. Sierra Leone was also in its infancy in the first few years after independence, before military coups and tribal warfare became common. The authors forthrightly recount their feelings of loneliness and isolation, and their frightening experiences with secret societies and witchcraft, but their uniquely optimistic "can-do" American attitude brought most through a great life experience.
