Very good. 8.25 x 5.25 inches, contemporary ruddy brown leather with single gilt rule at the borders of the boards, very good, light rubbing and wear, a few small spots to binding, contents very good, light foxing, slight musty smoky odor (came from the home of a smoker -- can probably be aired out); ownership signature in pencil of W. Minor Roberts, 1839 -- he was the chief engineer and builder of the Cumberland Valley Railroad and is written up and pictured in Westhaeffer's history of that railroad; on the rear flyleaf is the signature of J. B. Gibson and his wife, Sally W. Gibson, Carlisle PA: John Bannister Gibson (1780-1853), a Pennsylvania attorney and judge who was on the PA Supreme Court from 1816 till his death; he served as Chief Justice during some of those years. 61 pp, 8 engraved plates, mainly geologic maps; includes small folding map of the mining district -- the Swatara district was about 40 miles NE of Harrisburg.
