Sobre este artículo

(London: Published for the Royal Society and sold by the Cambridge University Press, 1909). 4to; brown cloth-backed boards; lettered in gilt on spine; pp. ix + (i) + 235, incl. index; eight large folding charts, but lacking the general map (chart IX); several maps and tables. Cover rather worn; lower joint fractured; corners turned; hand-stamp of Radcliffe Observatory to flyleaf; some cloth tape reinforcing to folds of charts; light browning to edges of leaves. Fair externally; good condition overall. Sir John Carruthers Beattie (1866-1946) was a physicist specialising in earth magnetism. "His main field was the south to north magnetic survey of Africa, in which he worked closely with a fellow-Scot, Professor J.T. Morrison of the Victoria College, later the University of Stellenbosch. Their work for the survey in South Africa between 1898 and 1906 was published under Beattie's name as Report of a magnetic survey of South Africa." - DSAB IV, p. 24 .
