Fair externally; good condition overall. Sir John Carruthers Beattie (1866-1946) was a physicist specialising in earth magnetism. Their work for the survey in South Africa between 1898 and 1906 was published under Beattie's name as Report of a magnetic survey of South Africa." - DSAB IV, p. 24 .
