A tiny bit of material missing to top spinecap. Spine lean and cocked but still solidly bound. Front hinges starting. A sixteen-page section of torn pages towards latter part of book. Mildly age-tanned. Titles worn from spine. Gilt lettering to front of navy, grosgrain-covered boards. Clean. 209 pp with references for the study of the short story and a chronological list of representative American Short Stories Some of the stories included in this volume are : Chariessa ; or, a Pattern for the Sex (1788) Anonymous ; Rip Van Winkle (1819) Washington Irving ; The Gold Bug (1843) Edgar Allan Poe ; The White Cowl (1888) James Lane Allen ; The Gift of the Magi (1905) and All or Nothing (1912) Charles Caldwell Dobie.
