Sobre este artículo

Baton Rouge, LA: Louisiana State University Press, 1998. Book. As New. Hardcover. 1st Edition. 9 1/4 h x 6 1/4w. A nice looking 562 page first edition hardcover. Has some margin notes and underlining but still nice. In the decades before the Civil War, numerous Americans lent their enthusiasm to various social reform movements. In this ground-breaking work, John Quist explores reform movements in two individual counties--one in the Old Northwest, the other in the Deep South--to understand better how deeply and extensively the climate of reform penetrated American life. In both Tuscaloosa County, Alabama, and Washtensaw County, Michigan, Quist investigates those causes that eventually were carried forward by large voluntary associations: namely, evangelical benevolence, temperance, the colonization of blacks to Africa, and the abolition of slavery. He tracks the changes and continuities that occurred in the religious, social, and political constituencies of reform, and notes the development of the means and messages of the reformers.Quest finds a striking similarity in northern and southern reform campaigns..

Sobre Warren's Books

I have been selling books since 1976. I am not a mega-lister that just types in an ISBN and paste a message of how great I am or how many books we\I sell. I list each book carefully trying to tell the faults and positives of our book. Most of the time I will tell what the book is about and list if it a first edition, hardcover or has a dust jacket. Photos of books are usually my scan and not a stock photo. If you have any questions, please ask. If you decide to pay with check or money order, please make it out to Warren Hahn, That's me!! I have about 5,200 books online with another 200 to list.
