Sobre este artículo
Alfred A. Knopf, 1958. First Edition. Hardcover with Dust Jacket. FINE/Very Good. SIGNED and inscribed by the author on the FFEP. 12mo, [10], 3-308, [3] pp. 12mo, black cloth, gilt spine lettering, 'FB' monogram blindstamp to front cover, Borzoi blindstamp to rear, gray topstain. Exceedingly clean and sharp; DJ tips just a bit rubbed, 1' tear to rear tail, small pen mark to young Buechner's chin on author photo. Buechner's third novel moves beyond the settings of his earlier work into the political world of Ansel Gibbs, appointed by the President out of retirement to a cabinet position; his opposition dredges up a fraught personal history leading to crises of faith and conscience. In The Book of Buechner, Dale Brown calls the book a series of trials: 'Gibbs is on trial with the senate, with his daughter, with Robin Tripp, with Kuykendall, and with Farwell. Most of all, however, he is trying himself.' Semi-autobiographical elements include his own father's suicide, as well as character Henry Kuykendall's basis in James Muilenberg, legendary Old Testament Professor under whom Buechner studied at Union Seminar.
