First edition. Mrs Romer, born in London, was a novelist, travel writer, and biographer. These two volumes follow her travels throughout France, Spain, and other Mediterranean islands, providing her first-hand impressions of these destinations. As Romer travels south, she provides interesting accounts of the Arab presence in this region in the chapter titled 'The Arab Dominion in Spain,' detailing the history of Arab rule in this area. Her accounts of the topography and weather conditions, as well as the culture surrounding the built environments in these areas in the mid-19th century makes for a highly interesting read.
