Sobre este artículo
London: Simms and M'Intyre, 1853. Captain Mayne Reid (1818-1883) was born in Ireland but immigrated to America, where he served in the Mexican War. His adventurous books (perhaps 75 novels published) reflected his real knowledge of the American West. He called his novels "truth poetically coloured."Here are his first two works, presented in Fine Bindings. Interestingly, he was published in England prior to America. "The Rifle Rangers" was first published in 1850; "The Scalp-Hunters" followed a year later. These are Near-Fine copies of Later Printings from 1853. Marbled paper-covered boards with dark blue leather spine and tips. Five raised bands with gilt stampings on the spine; red label with gilt titling. Clean texts, with no spotting or foxing evident. All page ends, and the endpaperrs, are marbled. "The Rifle Rangers" has 333 pages of the storyline, but Reid has added voluminous Notes that continue on to page 384. "The Scalp-Hunters" includes a Preface dated 1851; vi, 339 pages of storyline, then "Explanatory Notes" that continue to page 384. Both volumes are in lovely condition, with the only real defects some rubbing to the board edges (affects the boards but not the leather.. Later Printing. Quarter-Bound. Near Fine/No Jacket. 16mo - over 5¾" - 6¾" tall.
