Jacket done by Peter Burchard. Baumgarten 118. A pleasing copy of this Newbery Award-winner, a moving tale of a Union soldier's experiences in Kansas and Oklahoma during the U.S. Civil War. While completing research for his master's thesis, Keith stumbled across little-known history concerning the Western campaign in the Civil War. He spent time interviewing 22 Civil War veterans, and those conversations informed much of this novel. A small closed tear to the front panel with a tape ghost on the reverse.
