Giovanni Fiammelli was a 16th-century Italian engineer who focused on mathematics as the foundation for his research and planning. While little is known of his life, he published one of the most important mathematics treatises in 'La Riga Matematica'. Fiammelli explains his techniques in using mat to determine water depths, measure long distances, and give context to architectural planning.
