The text is illustrated by eight black-and-white illustrations by W. S. Stacey, of which four are missing. There are also two maps within the text. Illustrated red coloured boards with gilt coloured titles and illustration to the front panel and back strip. Green coloured tint to all text block edges. On the conquest trail with Cortez. This book has been sympathetically rebound. The cloth of the boards, along with the illustrations, had become rubbed faded and marked -- please see photograph. The green coloured tint of the text block edges has faded and the pages show age toning and the occasional handling mark. With the rebinding the book has been given new endpapers.
