Sobre este artículo
(London: J. M. Dent / Everyman's Library, 1909). Three 12mo volumes; original red cloth, lettered in gilt on spine in each case; top edges gilt; pp. (iv) + 478, (vi) + 504, (vi) + 460, incl. index. Light wear to cloth; endpapers a little browned; occasional fox spot. Good to very good condition. 'When the book-work of an unknown historian-was ready, it was difficult to obtain a publisher for it. But it was no sooner published than it found an audience that quickly grew enthusiastic over it, and it had a like welcome from the critics. One of its earliest reviewers was Froude in "The Westminster Review" (1856), where he hailed it a "history as complete as industry and genius can make it.
