ORIGINAL DUST JACKET, with romantic illustration of steamboat scene by JOHN ALAN MAXWELL (who illustrated books for John Steinbeck, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Joseph Conrad, among others). 5 3/4" x 8 1/2" , 251 pages. Boards are blue with black print on spine. A discoloration stripe on first ffe (over map of Missouri River), slight chipping and discoloration top edge of rear face of jacket, else very tight and sharp with no interior marks. Noted book appraiser James Beattie has given this copy a value of $35.
