First Edition (1931), not directly stated, but implied, with same date at the title and copyright pages and no subsequent printings noted. . Very Good+: shows just a hint of wear to the corner tips and a bit of rubbing along the front edge of the backstrip; the text pages have tanned ever so slightly; a former owner's vintage - and rather attractive bookplate (personalized) at the front pastedown endpaper; else flawless; the binding is square and perfectly secure; the text is clean. Free of creased or dog-eared pages in the text. Free of underlining, hi-lighting, notations, or marginalia. A handsome nearly-new copy, structurally sound and tightly bound, showing mild wear and minor, unobtrusive flaws. Not far from 'As New'. NOT a Remainder, Book-Club, or Ex-Library. 8vo. (8.35 x 5.75 x 1.35 inches). 289 pages. Fourteen pages of vintage duotone photographs interspersed throughout the text. Language: English. Weight: 22 ounces. Red cloth over boards with black titles at the front panel and backstrip. Hardback: Lacks DJ. Anna Louise Strong (1885 – 1970) was an American journalist and activist, best known for her reporting on and support for communist movements in the Soviet Union and the People's Republic of China. In 1921 she first went to Russia as the correspondent of the American Friends Relief Mission. She also founded and was managing editor of the only English-language newspaper in Russia. This book recounts her trip on horseback ca. 1929 to the High Pamirs, that desolate Central Asian plateau which is called "The Roof of the World". "The Road to the Grey Pamir" was her fourth travelogue / reportage on Soviet subjects which had begun to be published in 1924, after several works of fiction, religious tracts, and on social work subjects all written prior to 1915 and before her conversion to communism.
