Text otherwise clean & bright, binding square & rather tight.. 8vo. 5.875 x 8.25 in. xxxv, [i], 1033, [1] pp. Rebound in plain black cloth, titled in gilt on spine, all edges red. Volume Three (Summer) only of 'The Roman Breviary: Reformed by Order of the Holy Oecuminical Council of Trent; Published by Order of Pope St Pius V.; and Revised by Clement VIII., Urban VIII., and Leo XIII Together with Offices since Granted and The Martyrology. Complete sets of this edition, originally published in 1879, are indeed rare. John Patrick Crichton-Stuart (1847-1900), Marquess of Bute, Knight of the Thistle, Knight Grand Cross of St. Gregory and of the Holy Sepulchre, was an humble & devout Scottish recusant aristocrat, scholar, and philanthropist (The Catholic Encyclopedia).
