Illustrated with 42 full page black and white photographs. Early printing [first published 1906, no additional printing listed on copyright page as per publisher's practice]. Contains thirty-five essays extolling and describing the eternal city's "topography, history architecture, and manners and customs", by writers both famous (Maeterlinck, Dickens, Zola, Hawthorne Gibbon)and now faded from view. Small gift inscription written inside front cover and slight indent from paper clip on upper edge of first few pages of text. A clean, sound, bright and otherwise unmarked copy of a handsome book. Very good+.
