Two volumes. Small 8vo. 175 x 115 mm., [7 x 4 ½ inches]. [10], 303 pp.; viii, 294 pp. Two frontispieces and 84 plates. Bound in publisher's decorative bindings, gilt decoration on upper boards and title gilt on spine; spines faded along with the edges of the boards, some light foxing, otherwise a nice copy.
Appears to be the second edition, originally issued in 1904. This two-volume work covers both ancient and Renaissance Rome. Field provides a historical view of the establishment and development of the city and its emperors as well as a tour of the artistic achievements of the many Italian artists who worked in Rome and the Popes who enlisted their skills. Very well illustrated.

Since retirement he has begun bookselling once again and is again a member of the Antiquarian Booksellers Association of America and the International League of Antiquarian Booksellers. He is also a member of the Grolier Club, NY, the Association Internationale de Bibliophile, Paris, and the Print Council of America.
