Royal Science Readers - Books 1 & 2 [Royal School Series] Hardback, 1896, first editions, published by Thomas Nelson & Sons, 128 pages and 144 pages respectively (second volume should be 146 pages but final leaf of text in second volume, containing exercises relating to final few lessons, is missing). Boards are scuffed and marked but have retained much of their colour, patterning and lettering. Signs of rubbing and shelf-wear. Some fading/discolouration to spines, especially the first volume, making the title on it unclear, but on the second volume still visible. Corners bumped and a little torn. Binding reasonably firm, though hinges strained tears at ends where staples hold textblocks in place, with rear endpapers detached from textblocks, though still attached to rear boards. Title pages embossed with "PRESENTED BY THE PUBLISHERS". Page edges browned. Rust marks to staples and on parts of pages where they have come into contact. Previous owner inscriptions to both volumes and the second volume has some pencil notes on the rear free endpaper but otherwise page surfaces are very clean, with no underlining, marginalia, etc. See pictures for further information.
