A finely-bound full blue levant morocco scarce First Edition with tipped in 2-page autographed letter signed by the author to the illustrator dated August 7, 1897, on James Whitcomb Riley's embossed letterhead, with suggestions for content of the illustrations for the "Old Swimmin' Hole." From the Private Collection of Marcia G. Woods. [xii], 111 pp. Bound by MacDonald, the full blue levant morocco covers are gilt paneled with thistle devices, spine gilt, raised bands, gilt dentelles, red morocco doublures, red silk endleaves, and all page edges are covered in gold tilt. Original front, rear, and spine cloth are bound in at rear. Enclosed in a morocco-tipped, felt-lined slipcase that has light touches of wear. Bound by MacDonald. A rare and beautiful set for lovers of James Whitcomb Riley.
