Sobre este artículo

London: Macmillan and Co, 1936. Fine Binding. Fine. 6" by 4". None. A finely bound Bayntun-Riviere copy of this famous poem by the Persian philosopher and poet. With the binder's stamp 'Bayntun Riviere' to the verso of front endpaper. This copy is posted from the Golden Treasury Series. This is a reprint from November 1936. This English translation has been edited from Edward Fitzgerald's first translation. Following this there is a discussion between the second, third, and fourth editions of Fitzgerald's translation. 'The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam' was the title that Edward Fitzgerald gave to his 1859 translation of Khayyam's poems which was the first English translation. However, Fitzgerald's translations are fairly loose, he referred to his work on them as 'transmogrification'. Some consider that his translation of 'Rubaiyat' could be considered as Fitzgerald's own original poetry that are simply loosely based on Khayyam's quatrains. In a full calf binding. Externally, excellent with minor shelfwear to the extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean. Fine

Sinopsis

Philosopher, astronomer and mathematician, Khayyam as a poet possesses a singular originality. His poetry is richly charged with evocative power and offers a view of life characteristic of his stormy times, with striking relevance to the present day.

Reseñas

El May 16 2016, un lector dijo:
With Paintings and Decorations by Sarkis Katchadourian, born in Iran, where he recreated romantic frescoes in old palaces, he then trained in Rome, continued in Paris and then later in Munich. It is really fitting that this cosmopolitan artist's original paintings reproduced in bright colors and the black and white line drawings take you there celebrate under a bough with a book of verse and flask of wine you are magically drawn in and there drinking in the words of the poet.... drunk on the verse.
El Sep 11 2011, WonderPony dijo:
Fantastic poetry from 11th century Persia as translated by a depressed Englishman going through a divorce in 1859. The first translation is by far the best but it is interesting to get several of them and compare. I'm not a huge poetry fan but I love the simplicity, imagery and strange allegories Omar Khayyam writes about. He was apparently a big fan of the wine.
