Wartime diary kept by Bernard Berenson, the celebrated humanist and art historian, first in his own home and then in his secret retreat near Florence, Italy. Salmon boards with black cloth spine, gilt cover lettering, black and white frontis portrait, 461pages with index, printed dustjacket. The book is in good condition with a half-faded tinted top edge, heavily rubbed bottom right front cover corner, mild two-toning to front cover, minor additional edgewear, sound text block, good hinges, foxed endpapers and a paper clip shadow atop half title, otherwise clean pages with no other markings. The mylar protected dustjacket is not priceclipped and is also in good condition, pleasatly age-toned, with some chipping along the top front cover edge and spine ends, minor additional edgewear.. First Edition. Hard Cover. Good/Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
