Sobre este artículo
Harpercollins, 1975. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Good/Near Fine. Association copy, inscribed on the half-title page to naturalist-author and MacArthur Genius Grant-recipient Gary Paul Nabhan and his first wife: "For Karen and Gary--who have such pleasure and joy in green and growing life, and in each other that being with them is enjoyment of things shared. With appreciation for time spent together and hospitality, and much affection -- and who knows, perhaps we will meet again on this most beautiful of all rivers--Ann (and the other Zwingers), June 1978." That's the Green River, the subject of this book. Nabhan is known in particular for his writing on Indigenous populations and their ethnobotany in the Southwest: Karen Reichhardt was his first wife and is a fellow botanist; they co-founded a native seed organization together. Apart from the fantastic inscription, this book is notable as Zwinger won the John Burroughs Medal for nature writing for it, and Nabhan would go on to be a fellow winner of that award. A good book on account of a half-inch tear at the top of the spine, otherwise very good; in a near fine jacket with light edge wear and a few creases to flaps. A great association copy. We encourage you to look up Nabhan's touching tribute to Zwinger on Orion magazine's blog after her death in 2014 ("The beauty that her drawings and narratives evoked were enough to quell my rants, and I began classes in botany, scientific illustration, and creative writing because of her.") // Wood (+) River (=) Books specializes in ecology, natural history, nature writing, the environment, and environmental literature, with a special passion for association copies and notable inscriptions.

Sobre Rural Hours
Rural Hours (formerly Wood + River = Books, est. 2019) specializes in ecology, natural history, nature writing, the environment, environmental literature, and contemporary essay, with a special passion for association copies and notable inscriptions. We draw our name from the popular-but-then-forgotten book by Susan Fenimore Cooper (published in 1850), generally considered the first work of environmental creative nonfiction by a woman in the U.S. We are interested in challenging and expanding the canon of environmental literature and finding books that tell remarkable stories and illuminate the tradition of writing about place and natural history.
