The first edition of one of the most famous works of the ethnographer and archaeologist, professor at Moscow University, researcher of the culture of Ancient Russia, Ivan Mikhailovich Snegirev (1793–1868). Proverbs and parables for this work were collected by I.M. Snegirev for 30 years and constitute important material for the study of the Russian people and language. Vladimir Dal called this work one of the sources he used. In the report on the award of the fifth Demidov Prize, which was awarded to the book, "remarks and explanations of proverbs, sayings and various words related to domestic memories, and especially to ancient judicial rites and to the subject of jurisprudence, which constitute the most curious part of works of Mr. Snegirev. The edition is rare.
