The very scarce first edition of this illustrated mid nineteenth century anthology of poetry relating to prayer and the sabbath, edited by writer, publisher and photographer Joseph Cundall, and with poems from Cowper, Mrs. Hemans, Longfellow, Coleridge, Herbert - and many others - present.Illustrated throughout with bright vignette chromolithographs from watercolourist Birket Foster, printed and engraved by Edmund Evans, who was know for employing and collaborating with illustrators such as Walter Crane, Randolph Caldecott, Kate Greenaway and Richard Doyle to produce what are now considered to be classic children's books. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Bumping to back strip head and tail. Internally, binding strained to centre of text block. Light tide mark to fore edge of title page, and a small number of further leaves. Pages bright and generally clean, with the odd mark. Very Good

Where are We?
Based in the literary city of Bath, our offices are housed in the Eastern Dispensary. Built in 1845, the building originally existed as a charitable institution providing medical care. The building now houses our collection of over twenty thousand books and has five full time members of staff.
