A history of the development of sailing ships by Edward Keble Chatterton, prolific author on maritime and naval themes of the twentieth century. Concerning early Egyptian ships from about 6000 B.C. through to sailing ships in the nineteenth and twentieth century, with a chapter on the fore and aft rig and its developments, including coasters, fishing boats, yachts, &c. With a coloured frontispiece and numerous black and white plates, folding plans to rear. From the library of L. Harrison Matthews, British zoologist known for his research on marine mammals, with his signature to front free endpaper. In the original publisher's full cloth binding with coloured illustration to front board. Externally very smart with minor shelf wear only, lightly bumped to extremities of spine and boards, back-strip darkened. L. Harrison Matthews signature to front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Minor spotting to fore edge, affecting only first few leaves, pages otherwise bright and clean. Very Good

Based in the literary city of Bath, our offices are housed in the Eastern Dispensary. Built in 1845, the building originally existed as a charitable institution providing medical care. The building now houses our collection of over twenty thousand books and has five full time members of staff.
