Free Press, New York, 2006. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good/Good. Illustrator: Photographic. 465 g.; XII, 292 pages, introduction by author, source notes, acknowledgements and index. The text is illustrated with 14 pages of black-and-white photography between page 148 and 145, a map frontispiece showing Europe 1939-1945 and the occasional black-and-white reproduction of documents throughout the text. 1/4 dark gray coloured backstrip with gilt titles. 3/4 buff coloured boards. A little rubbing to the book edges and bumping to the backstrip edges. Remainder mark to the lower text block edge. Photographic dustwrapper with red and black titles to the front panel and red, white and black titles to the backstrip. Minor rubbing to the dustwrapper edges and dustwrapper panels. Black-and-white photographs of author to the rear fold over panel. For 50 years Sala Kirschner hid from her family over 350 photographs and letters and a diary that detailed six years she spent as slave labour in the Nazi labour camps. On the eve of heart surgery she gave them to her daughter, Ann, who wrote this book as a gift to her mother and as a remembrance of those who did not survive the Holocaust.
